A little trivia on the Moscow Olympics:
These were the first games to be held in a communist country. The U.S. boycotted these games because of the invasion of Afganistan by the U.S.S.R. Besides the U.S. staying at home,Japan and West Germany stayed back as well.Only 80 countries came to the Olympics. This was down from the 122 that had participated in the games 4 years earlier.

Now on to Munich Olympics trivia:
The Olympic games in Munich were overshadowed by the Munich Massacre in which 11 Israeli athletes and coaches,a West German police officer,and 5 terrorists were killed.

The closest is 572, that was the distance on the site that I was using.

British Equestrian, Lorna Johnstone was 70 years and 5 days old when she rode at the 1972 Games, thus being the oldest woman ever to compete at an Olympic Games.

Apart from the “Munich Massacre”, the 1972 Olympics are also remembered for the world record set by famous American swimmer, Mark Spitz. He won seven gold medals (setting a world record for each of those events in the process), becoming the player to win the maximum number of medals in a single Olympics. He could have won more, but had to leave the games before they were concluded for his own safety. He was a Jew and the authorities thought that he would become an additional target of the Palestinian terrorists responsible for the “Munich Massacre”.
