January photo challenge :)

Kerri she is so adorable, and this is a wonderful photo!! I love the chubby little hand. I see a window in the background of your photo, this is a great place to catch some light. This will allow you to get some more light shining in those baby blue eyes!

I've gone through about 50 albums, and I could only find a few that have the catch light effect. Here are my examples.
This one had really bright overhead lighting.


This was taken outside in mid daylight. Lots of catch light from all around.


I'm not sure where the light source was in this one.


The light source in this one was mid afternoon the sun
was shining to the left of the subject.I have taken a lot of photos that have no catch light at all, and I don't think that they are "dull" and "life less" like Wikipedia states. But when you can get this effect in your photos, it's awesome!!

Brandy photo was taken outside so natural light source. Light is shining in a window in the photo of Nika.

Maggi you have two beautiful dogs!! I'm assuming Brandy is a black lab, and Nika is a standard poodle???.....Got some wonderful catch light in both!

You are right on both accounts Sonya. Brandy was actually half lab and half german shepherd. She was an oops from a gorgeous male shepherd and I never saw her mother. She has been gone since 12/28/07 but I still think of her alot. That is a fave picture. Nika is my new puppy, she is 9 mos old today!

I took this awhile ago and played with it a little but the catch light is still there - I thought maybe something a little different would be interesting!! (it's my eye)

I have some shots of her were I believe she had had just about enough of me and the camera.

Great job on the challenge ladies!! Hope to see more by the end of the month.

I played around with this a bit today. In my original, I can see the reflection of our street scape in her eye - it wouldn't easily be identified as that though and doesn't show as much in this smaller version.


I also learned there can be too much light or perhaps its just the angle. In some photos, her eyes looked more distorted than this. Not sure if that would happen with people though. I can also see a second light source from an indoor lamp in this one. I should have turned that off before taking the photo.
