Make-It-Monday - May 20

Good morning ladies. Today I want to show you a fast, fun and fancy lace flower that takes next to no skill to complete and looks great! My kind of flower!

First you will need a piece of lace. It doesn't matter what color or what width or whether it's really fancy or not. I like to use cotton lace and depending on how big I want my flower to be, that's the lace size I'll go to (can a girl really have TOO much lace? I don't think so!) Here is some random lace I had near my desk:





Next you need a twist tie.. yes, you read that correctly, a twist tie. If you have fancy floral wire, I won't hold it against you if you want to use that instead. I have easier access to twist ties. I pull the paper of of them and use the wire inside. Easy peasy.



What I do is mimic a running stitch (up down, up down, up down and so on and so forth) using my wire instead of thread and my lace instead of fabric. You can do as many "stitches" or as few as you want. Do it until it looks good to you.

Now, note that I did not tell you HOW LONG YOUR LACE PIECE HAS TO BE?? Well that's because if you want a "thin" flower, you use a little bit of lace and if you want a "thick" flower you use more. It's that simple. It's really up to you! I keep squishing my lace down (not letting it fall off the far end of the wire) and curling until I like what I see. When I'm satisfied, I take the two ends of the wire, twist, trim the lace ad the wire ends (use old scissors to trim wire and nice scissors to trim your lace!) and voila... my "petals" are done.

You should have something that looks like this:


Now you want your flower to have a nice center, right? So pick something that you like - a button, a brad, a piece of paper, a piece of cardstock, a different bauble.. getting the picture?? You choose!

Et voila! Fun, fancy, fast lace flowers!


Now I searched around online for a "nice" tutorial of these flowers. I figure I can't be the only one who makes them, right? Well, apparently I am!

Very easy! I was trying to achieve more ruffles though! Hmmmm... I think from looking at the pics on the first page that I can do that! I'll just ruffle as I wire! I put my wire straight through on this one, but if I gather as I wire then it'll be ruffled, right?

Yep.. that's the secret! Just keep pushing it together and you'll get a nice "thick" ruffle.

Honestly, it's so easy I feel dumb even showing it! But hey, everyone needs an easy flower every once in a while!!
