I did two for this challenge. I like the first one but didn't really use the masking tape in a way that imitated washi tape. The second page well, let me show you.

Here's the first one. I put masking tape over the whole page. Then I stamped with stazon black ink. I painted both blue and yellow over the whole page. The flowers are a stamp. I doodled some lady bugs and the red line/squiggle/xxxx.

For the second, I inked my masking tape with distress inks and then stamped it. I thought I'd be able to use gesso over it after heat setting the ink. The stamped brown ink disolved in the clear gesso and spread over the page. The tape also bubbled. I liked the results even though it wasn't the plan - so I did the right hand page just to that stage. I re-stamped along the tape. I wish I'd have quit there but I wanted to use a mask with paint. That didn't work. I painted over the mess, thus the large green blobs. Not sure why I didn't think to spray it with water and pull it off. My hand printing and the dotted lines below is my doodling. After all that, I though the change quote was appropriate. Just that I'm trying this is change and with some of my pages, I see results that I kind of like.

well... I tell ya... I sure had trouble with this challenge!! The first attempt looked not too bad till I doodled around the lettering...so I added tape on top... then added white gesso and the ink blurred so I taped the pages together to make a new surface to start again... not better luck the second time but I finally have something I can live with!! I used drywall mesh tape, gesso, paint, clear alpha stickers, chipboard corners, doodles...and a quote:

oh, and the font for this month!!

Lois, it sounds like you had the same problem with ink that I did. I love the mesh background. That would be great for a layout.

Kelly, yes, I left the tape on the page and stamped and painted on top of it. I looked at several videos about making your own washi tape and stamped masking tape was one option. I covered my whole pages with tape.

Gail, I love the blue & yellow on your 1st page. The doodled ladybugs are so cute! I also like the subtle colors on the 2nd one.

Lois, love the drywall mesh! I've seen a card done with that and I've been wanting to buy some.

Great job ladies!

With the art journalling is it going on into October or are you calling it quits at end of September? I didn't see anything saying these were due by any time.

These aren't due on a specific date. For right now, we're just going to keep going with it. (Helen, or Carla, you can correct me if I'm wrong Wink)

As far as I know (it was Helen's idea) our journal is a work in progress -- no due date as such.

I love doing the journal... lets go till we need a new one!! I didn't paint the flower but I sure wish I could paint like that. It's a die cut I had in my stash of stuff!! I hope next Thursday is easier than this was... I had paint everywhere (on me!) and that drywall tape roll is a lot smaller than it was and I just hope there is enough left for the wall I have to do!!
