Every year I say I'm going to try and use some kind of recycled packaging rather than spending so much money on wrapping paper and ribbons but time always gets away from me and I end up taking the easy and expensive way out. Well, this year I'm planning ahead!
First, let me tell you a little secret. Baker's twine is CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP. What I'm about to share will surely put an end to anyone buying the twine in the store but I bought a huge roll of this for only $8.95 for 3,400 yards. YES, that's right. 3,400 yards. I won't run out of baker's twine for a VERY long time and it's PERFECT to use instead of ribbon.
Second, use what you already have instead of buying new.
With both of those in mind, here are some great ways to green your gift wrap:
I went through my scrapbooking paper stash and found an old piece of Jenni Bowlin paper and just added a small Making Memories tag tied with the twine. The thin sheets of paper work better but you could use any paper in your stash.
Brown paper sacks are perfect for wrapping. I just cut the sack/bag down the sides so it would lay flat and then found a small box that fit the paper size. Then I just added a leftover 1/2 of a Jenni Bowlin tag that I had used on another project, a jingle bell that I had in my stash, and wrapped with twine.
Newspapers are also great for wrapping. I had fun finding the perfect sheet and loved the crossword puzzle idea along with a small tag tied with the twine.
And don't forget what scraps of wrapping paper you already have on hand. I used most of this paper last year but had a few small scraps leftover. I added a Jenni Bowlin bingo card from my stash tied with the twine.
Envelopes make great money holders or small gifts. I added a couple Jenni Bowlin buttons with the twine.
