never thought i would want to organize my digi photos , as most are on my Photobucket, but came across this HP site for ideas..

I use Picasa 3 and I name my files in the following format -

Category-Year (4 digits)-Description

for example:

Lisa-1972-Birthday Party

if someone else is in the photo I add them at the end

Lisa-1972-Birthday Party with Matt & Sam

That way if I key in Matt or Sam for a search that picture will come up too

If I don't know the year I key in XXXX so that they will be together and I can at some point try and date them.


I began with 4,000 photos. I deleted a lot of duplicates or crappy ones.
I have 3,500 photos and 500 left to date.

I have been working on this for months though.

Mine are on the computer.. and I sort them as I upload them... 2012 photos, 2012 layouts, 2012 cards, 2012 altered art. Easy peasy!

I'm trying to work out a way to sort through all mine too. I have things better organized the last couple of years than previously but need to start tagging them in Photobucket so I can find them when I need them... It's so hard having multiple kids in each pic and everyone living so far away from each other! I'm sure it will take me months and maybe years to sort it all out... I'll never not have something to do will I?

Oh, that's a great site with lots of ideas! Lisa, I like your way of organizing them. I do like Helen does.

I do similar to Helen. I tried tagging and categorizing but it is so time consuming and I'm not disciplined enough. I decided not to delete any more photos unless they were really bad because I must have unintentionally deleted some that were just so so and now I want them for backgrounds.

HI Gals, what a great thread! I TRY to delete as I upload.

I sort some into "Pics for prints" with a date, too.

ie: "Pics for prints Fall to Chr'mas 2011" That way when Superstore has a special on, Pete loads them to the stick from that folder and away he goes to order them.

I also have files for:
2012 LOs
Ali's Cards
Ali's Altered items.
