they have gone in and out of style for years, Ali. My Grandmother & Aunts use to make them when I was a little girl.
they would make all types of decorations for their trees also.
of course they did not have hotglue guns then...which made it more involved to create.

My favorite was the carved out oranges ...they would glue some type of figurine or decoration to the inside.
I use to love to peek inside.
I will have to put this on my to do list the next time I head North....find out all the different decorations and how they did them.

I love hearing about the different traditions our seniors/elders had, and may still be doing... can you find out more? I am SUPER interested JM! Of course I don't mean to do it right now! LOL! As if the season isn't busy enuf! I have never heard of the oranges one.... I bet they smelled good!
