Rowing

Although its history dates back centuries, rowing only came of age as a competitive sport in the last 200 years. Interest began to increase after Oxford and Cambridge Universities began their rivalry on the Thames in 1829, a rivalry that continues today in the shape of the annual Boat Race.

Rowing has been staged at every Games since making its debut on the Olympic program at Paris in 1900. The youngest Olympic champion is thought to be an anonymous
French boy who steered for a Dutch pair at the inaugural competition. The boy, aged no more than 12, took part in the Victory Ceremony but then disappeared. Women’s Rowing events joined the Olympic program at Montreal 1976.

Rowing events are head-to-head races, ranging from Single Sculls to the Eight, contested by teams of eight rowers with a cox (person that is responsible for steering & directing the team.

Did you know?
At Amsterdam 1928 Australian rower Henry Pearce stopped halfway through his quarter-final race to let a family of ducks pass in front of his boat. Although a French competitor overtook him, Pearce managed to get back in front and win the gold.

Rowing is the only sport where competitors cross the finish line backwards.

Your challenge is to use eight of something on your page. You must also use 16 of something (2 oars for each person on the boat) and use lines to represent the boats rowing straight.

Kerri! You're so fast and did such a GREAT job!! the squares are the perfect thing to set off that photo of what is obviously little boy SPUNK!! I love your background pp too.. looks like a corrugated steel building - just tough enough for your spunky guy.

16 fower rhinestones on the cake, 8 in total brads on the corners of the photos and the present is stripy. I hope this is ok

Well Helen, since I read your post I have been trying to figure out how to put 16 photos on BUT I come up with 18 & I am not sure I have an individual photo of everyone!! I think it is getting my attention & I wonder how many others are thinking the same!!

Finished Rowing this afternoon. I did the company of this page for a challenge during summer school. It was "Posing", here is theright side "with Grammie".



There are 8 brads and 16 pearls, lines in the journaling oval. Thanks for the challenge, Stephanie.
