PostSubject: Crochet Flowers   Crochet Flowers Icon_minitimeMay 8th 2012, 3:32 pm

This is my first attempt at a tutorial.

Doilies are a very popular design in the paper crafting world today and crochet flowers have been showing up everywhere. I bought a package at Michaels and set out to re-create them.

I use a Size 3 Metal Crochet Hook and Number 5 DMC Pearle Cootton. I like the Perle Cotton because it is available in a wide range of colours and the ball size is small. I don't have large balls around that I have only used a few yards off.

Here goes...

1. Chain 4.

2. Join to form ring. Slip stitch in first chain stitch.

3. Chain 3, 13 Double Crochet into the circle. This makes a total of 14 around the circle. Slip stitch into top of chain 3.

4. Chain 3, Slip stitch into first double crochet, *Chain 3 slip, skip next double crochet, slip stitch in the next* Repeat 5 more times. Slip Stitch in base of chain three. This makes the bases for 7 petals. (there is one petal for every 3 DC.)

5. Slip Stitch into Chain 3 Base for Petal. *1 Half Double Crochet. 8 Double Crochet, 1 Half Double Crochet ( This makes 1 Petal.) Slip Stitch into next Petal base. * Repeat 6 times.

6. Slip into the base of first petal. Secure your ends.

Here is a pic of a few that I have made.

This is a LO that I did with a smaller version.

Enjoy!!! Thanks for the challenge and hope this is something you will try.

So pretty! I cannot crochet with tiny threads - or tiny hooks for that matter - I think it might be related to age! LOL

You rocked those! Awesome job.

Thanks, ladies.

The number 5 Perle Cotton is not real small, it is about the thickness of 6 strands of embroidery floss. There are several sizes of the Perle Cotton and it comes in a lot of the same colours as floss. I have not tried the floss because I thought it would probaly catch in the hook.

It's a great tutorial Linda. Your layout is so pretty. Lovely colors and very delicate. I intend to make some crochet flowers but last time I tried I found out I need to re-teach myself how to crochet.

I used #5 DMC Perle Cotton. It comes in a lot of the same colurs as floss but is the same thickness and is a twisted strand.

Same here! DH thinks I never knew how in the first place and that all the "old" test squares I have for stuff were made by someone else...lol. Yes, you can forget how to crochet/knit after 20+ years!
