JUNE 8 - World Oceans Day

World Oceans Day, which had been unofficially celebrated every 8 June since its original proposal in 1992 by Canada at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was officially recognized by the United Nations in 2008.

World Oceans Day is an opportunity every year to honour the world's oceans, celebrate the products the ocean provides such as seafood as well as marine life itself for aquariums, pets, and also a time to appreciate its own intrinsic value.

In order to celebrate here in true SoS style, use the picture above as inspiration for a project - layout, card or art journal page! Let us know what it was about the picture that inspired you to create what you did.

And have some seafood today, already! Or if you're close enough, head to the ocean today with your family. Take a picture and use it for your project life!

Here's my layout, I was inspired by all the colors, from the blues of the ocean to the yellows and reds of the fish and other creatures, the cacophony of color jumped out at me. I realized that when I picked up my quilt this week, that many of the colors were in the quilt itself. I used as many of them as possible in this layout!

Ok// here is mine.. I used my jewel markers.. and the colors were bright just like your example Kelly.. and also.. things underwater always look a bit distorted so this is my example...

Thanks... I just outlined my hand, and then drew straight lines from one side to the other and when I got to my pencil line where my hand was, I made a bump to connect to the other side... You should get the kids to try this

I just tried this on a scrap paper and it totally worked and I love it! I'm going to try and good one tomorrow if I have the time. Thanks Helen for explaining how to do it.
