April 4th - First Home Phone Installed Day!

The first commercial telephone used by Alexander Graham Bell was based on his patent of January 1877. The telephone consisted of a single transmitter/receiver placed within a retangular wooden box. One would speak into the opening in the box and then listen through the same opening. This telephone had essentially the same design as the patent drawing except for the shape. The the patent drawing had a round shape rather than squared.

Two or more of these box phones were connected in series on a line with a ground return. The first telephone line was installed in April 1877 between Charles William's electrical shop on Court Street, Boston and his home about three miles away. A month later the first rented installations were made making this line the first commercial telephone service.

Well I just had a nice chat with a gf who is leaving today to drive to N. Ontario to see her Mommy for Easter weekend.

had to call Paris's school to ask about the hockey uniform, as she made the HOCKEY team. so proud of my girl !!

I called my friend about a birthday party.

I called DH today, have to give him a message about his mom.

Of course this would be the day I haven't had to make any calls! I've received several calls but haven't made any.

I called my Mom this am! Congrats to your dd Kerri!

Called my DH today "bring home hamburger buns please!"

I called my parents. I also texted my granddaughter's other grandmother, my daughter and my oldest stepson to let them know Easter packages were on the way.

I'm going to call Son 1 and see if he has a free weekend coming up so I can go to visit.

Oh I did make a phone call later tonight - I called DD's friend's mom about the science fair project. She is getting together with her friend tomorrow night to work on it so we ironed out the details.

Called DH to see which way was faster to go home (north or south Anthony Hendy)!!

Called my DH from work to make a salad for supper to go with the pizza he was making! I normally don't call him from work for such things.

WTG laides!!!!!!

then I called my mom who wasn't home.. must be babysitting at one of my sisters' places..

I phoned my mom and let her know we made it safely to my sister's house.

BTW, my dad actually installed the FIRST phone in our hometown. He was only 14/15 at the time.

Neat-O Carla!!! I remember party lines! Mom would get SO mad at the ladies gossiping when she needed the phone! LOL! She'd tell them to stop so someone else could use it! Hehehe!

We too. Did you know that even when you were just rubbernecking, no connected, they could hear you if you made too much noise. Yup, that was me along with my sister and cousin.

Well I didn't read this until today but I know since it was a Wednesday that I must have called DH from work.. I ALWAYS call him from work at least two times. LOL
